Visual Arts Offerings & Opportunities
The MNPS Visual Art Curriculum is designed to give art teachers the freedom to deliver visual arts curriculum in a personalized manner, while ensuring all students throughout the district are consistently learning similar information. Our K-12 visual art instruction is provided by certified art educators.
- Every K-4 student receives instruction in the visual arts.
- In middle school, most students take visual art as part of the quarterly related arts rotation cycle.
- Our high school course offerings include Art I-III, Painting, Ceramics, Printmaking, Digital Design, and a variety of advanced AP, Cambridge, and IB selections.
Program Highlights
- Recently, 35 of our schools partnered with Southwest Airlines to participate in the Repurpose With Purpose Goes To School initiative. This project presented a unique opportunity to nurture the sustainable thinking of 6,535 students and teach them the environmental responsibility they have as global citizens. You can view the student work in the Southwest Airlines concourse at Nashville International Airport.
- Our middle and high school students participate in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards which is the nation's longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Over the years, MNPS students have been nominated for several American Visions Awards and awarded hundreds of Gold and Silver Key awards.
- Eleven upper-level Hillsboro, Hume-Fogg, and Nashville School of the Arts AP and IB artworks were selected for the Young Tennessee Artist Exhibition at The Frist Art Museum. They are students of educators Sara Hyatt, Shayna Snider, and Marti Profitt-Streuli.
