Hillsboro High School’s Class of 2021 saw 84 percent of their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme students complete all requirements for the prestigious honor, despite the obstacles the pandemic presented for most of their senior year.
The International Baccalaureate organization awarded Diplomas to 34 Hillsboro students, while another 45 students (88 percent of those who were eligible) earned the IB Career-Related Certificate. Students also earned 45 certificates from IB for their scores on individual subject exams.
More than 40 percent of Hillsboro seniors participated in an IB program or took at least one IB course.
“Words cannot express how proud we all are for the students and teachers in our IB Diploma Programme,” Hillsboro Executive Principal Dr. Shuler Pelham said. “During a year that has generated unprecedented challenges, our students and staff achieved historic accomplishments.”
International Baccalaureate programs emphasize academic rigor and personal development through cultivation of students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills and a focus on connections between classroom studies and real-world applications.

IB programs also are available at MNPS’s Antioch and Hunters Lane high schools; Bellevue, Goodlettsville, J.T. Moore, and West End middle schools; and Eakin and Julia Green elementary schools. East Middle and East High are authorized to start offering the IB program beginning in the fall of 2021.
