Park Avenue Elementary School is in West Nashville and is a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support school, meaning the staff places positive behavior and expectations at the center of everything.  park avenue graduate

The SWPBS guidelines at Park Avenue are:

  • Be respectful
  • Be responsible
  • Be ready
  • Be safe

The staff integrates social-emotional learning into every part of the curriculum.

Park Avenue also has an extended school day that includes breakfast in the classroom, blended learning opportunities, a garden, Project Lit book club, and Encore, the district's gifted learning program. The school recently added fifth-grade students.

The Park Avenue staff is committed to ensuring that Every Student is Known by fostering relationships with students and families and by creating supportive, engaging, rigorous, and personalized learning experiences for all students. Park Avenue implements Sown to Grow weekly check-ins, Rites of Passage mentoring, and a community partnership with Immanuel Church through which volunteers come each Tuesday to play structured games with students during recess.

“We are working towards becoming an award-winning school, because our students deserve an award-winning education,” Park Avenue Principal Ashley Thomas said. “Families should choose our school, because we strive to prepare our students for life after graduation.”

Park Avenue’s colors are blue and white, and their mascot is a polar bear. The school opened in 1917 for grades 1-6 with three teachers. In 1948-1950, five additional classrooms, an auditorium, an audio-visual room, and a library were added.
