Bellevue Middle facadeBellevue Middle School offers challenging learning in a caring environment. As one of only a few middle schools in the district that offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, Bellevue has a strong team of teachers and staff who teach students to reflect on their own learning as much as possible. Students learn to take ownership of their individual growth and are empowered to see, and understand, the impact their learning has on their futures.

In addition to personal ownership, Bellevue prioritizes the district’s Every Student Known initiative by providing students an opportunity to reflect on their day through individual connections with their teachers during “Owl Time,” which is the daily advisory time.

Bellevue also encourages students to find their own unique place in the school community through clubs and extracurricular activities, including the school's robust music program, which consistently ranks high in statewide competitions. The music disciplines include symphonic band, strings and rock band.

“At Bellevue, we prepare our students to be curious, thoughtful and principled individuals who engage with passion in the pursuit of learning,” Executive Principal Seth Swihart says. “This does not happen without excellent teachers and staff, and we are lucky to have dedicated and talented people in every grade and for every student. As a result of the excellent education students receive at Bellevue, they are ready to move into high school with confidence and with their eyes fully focused on their bright future.”

Facts about Bellevue Middle

  • Students lead their own parent/teacher conferences at Bellevue. They walk their families through recent tests, the work they are most proud of and what they want to work on. The conferences are designed to give students the confidence to share their academic successes and challenges.
  • Bellevue is a true community school. It opened in 1970 and now sits on property of the original Bellevue High School, which opened in 1931 – meaning a Bellevue school has been the cornerstone of that community for almost an entire century.

  • The school’s vision is “A Community in Pursuit of Excellence.”
