MNPS students speak more than 130 languages, having made their way to our schools from around the world with countless stories of ambition and resilience. We want to learn more about what makes those backgrounds unique – and what ties them together.

MNPS's Office of Family Engagement and Office of Restorative Practices are inviting students and families to celebrate the district’s diversity this summer by recording videos and audio clips about their cultures.

The Bridging Differences project seeks audio and video responses of at least 30 seconds and no longer than two minutes that will promote learning about various cultures, understanding of differences, and relationship-building.

Responses should answer this question: What do you value most about your culture?

“We want to get a fuller understanding of our diversity, and we want to make sure it’s done in a way that families are exploring their cultural wealth,” said Melissa Gordon, a restorative practice specialist with the district.
  • Students and families should send their video and audio responses in an MP4 format (or just email them from a smartphone) to the Family Support staff.
  • Videos should be shot horizontally.
  • Please also fill out the submission form in your preferred language.

The Bridging Differences project will be ongoing, so enter as many times as you like.
