Sixty years after sending its first graduating class into the world, Glencliff High is one of the most diverse schools in Tennessee, with more than 30 different nationalities and 25 languages represented in the student population. That diversity makes Glencliff a unique and exciting community in which to teach and learn.

“It is my pleasure to serve the students at Glencliff High School. Our vision is to be an exemplar school that models effective teaching and learning,” says Principal Clint Wilson. “We provide a safe and nurturing environment to meet the social and emotional needs of our students every day. The students are the reason that we are here.”

The high school originally opened its doors to 350 seventh- and eighth-graders and 13 faculty members. Each year the school added a grade until the junior/senior high school housed grades 7-12.

The school takes its name from the Glencliff Estate, which was a part of the original property owned by one of Nashville’s oldest families, the W.A. Woodroff family. The Glencliff Mansion and the Woodroff home were located on Old Mill Creek Valley Road, now called Antioch Pike.

Glencliff has three academies that provide unique experiences for students that prepare them to be college- or career-ready.

  • The Academy of Health and Hospitality
  • The Ford Academy of Business and Innovation
  • The Academy of Agriculture, Automotive and Technology
