Zoe serves as the Lady Ravens team captain, and she has already set her goal to bring home her fourth district individual and team championship. Kerr has a 3.25 grade-point average and has recently accepted a basketball scholarship to Texas A&M International University.

Who inspired you to start running cross-country? How long have you been running?
ZK: I was inspired to run cross-country by my basketball coach. Not only is that an additional sport for me, I also use cross-country to condition for basketball and stay in shape. I have been running cross-country for four years.

Cross-country is 10% physical and 90% mental; how do you apply that when you run at a meet?
ZK: From time to time, every athlete gets into his or her head. When fatigue starts to set in, I have to often reassure and push myself to the end of my race. Talking to myself or a little pep talk also helps. Staying confident and in the right mindset when running keeps me going. Zoe Kerr

What do you like best about your sport?
ZK: First, running clears my mind so that I can focus  on my race. It also helps me to stay conditioned and in shape for the next meet and for the next sports season ahead.

Have you ever thought about adding up how many miles you run after each meet? Just curious, how many miles would that be?
ZK: I have never really thought about adding up my miles. Off the top of my head this cross-country season, I may have run more than 1,000-plus miles, including both practice and meets.

Can you share a creed, quote or philosophy you live by?
ZK: “Great things come from hard work and perseverance. No excuses.” – Kobe Bryant. The world saw how hard Kobe Bryant worked to stay and maintain his career. I know if I put as much commitment and discipline into my sports, I know I will be just as successful as he was.

What goals have you set for the cross-country season, and how are things going?
ZK: Looking forward to finishing the cross-country season strong. The main goal is to win the cross-country district championship for myself and my teammates. I also would like a medal in the regional meet. As of right now, each meet is getting better and better as I work toward these goals. I am excited to complete the season all the way to the finish line.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever received in cross-country?
ZK: “Pace yourself until you’re close to the end, then give it all you got!” I use that in every race and sometimes in basketball. It really comes to my mind, especially depending on how I start the race.

Besides cross-country, what other interests or hobbies do you participate in?
ZK: As soon as cross-country is over, I head right into basketball season. I hope to be successful in both sports.
