Homeschooling

Approval for Homeschool

At Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, we strive to be the first choice for families in Davidson County. Recognizing that some families will choose to homeschool, we have provided information to assist you in making this educational choice.

Once you have made your decision to independently homeschool your child or children, you will need to complete the following:

Tennessee Notice of Intent to Home School

This Tennessee Notice of Intent to Home School serves as notice of your intent to conduct a home school as permitted by T.C.A. 49-6-3050. Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) conducting a home school under the supervision of the superintendent of a local education agency (LEA) must complete the form.

A child must be enrolled each year he or she is homeschooled, and the Notice of Intent to Home School form must be completed and submitted prior to the start of the school year. Should homeschooling be discontinued after enrollment, families must notify Metro Nashville Public Schools.

For additional information, please contact our Family Information Center at (615) 259-INFO (4636).

Homeschool Attendance Form

The parent/legal guardian will need to keep a calendar that shows each child is receiving a minimum of 4 hours of instruction daily for a 180-day school year as required by T.C.A. 3050(b)(3). At the end of the school year, families must submit the calendar to the Homeschool Office.
