ADA and 504 Compliance

MNPS does not discriminate on the basis of disability. It is both the policy and responsibility of MNPS to ensure that its programs, services, and activities are accessible, to students, employees, and members of the general public, including parents, visitors, and volunteers.

    Students

    Students with disabilities have the right to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). Each school has a trained support team in place to identify students with disabilities (through a process known as "child find"), evaluate their needs, and implement plans that ensure their greatest learning potentials are achieved. This is accomplished through a Section 504 plan or an individualized education program (IEP). Parents are encouraged to work with the school support teams to determine eligibility for 504 plans and IEPs.

    • If your child has a known or suspected impairment that may require accommodations or related services at school, contact the child's school counselor to inquire about Section 504 and/or request a Section 504 evaluation.
    • Students determined eligible for a 504 plan or IEP may receive appropriate accommodations, modifications, or related aids and services, as determined by the team.

    Staff

    MNPS employees or job applicants with physical or mental impairments that substantially limit a major life activity(s) are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

    If you are an employee or applicant in need of a reasonable accommodation under ADA, Title I contact the Title I Coordinator in the Office of Workplace Safety located in the Support Hub.

    Employees or applicants who believe they have been discriminated against in employment on the basis of disability may contact the Workplace Safety office to file a complaint.

    Public

    Parents, volunteers, visitors, and other members of the public enrich our schools with their energy and support. MNPS encourages their participation in programs, services, and activities and seeks to promote inclusive environments without barriers. Requests for reasonable accommodations, including requests for communication assistance, should start with administrators at the school or facility hosting the program, service, or activity.
